How to Use the Tax 2.0 Online Community

Once you have completed the membership application and it has been approved, you’re ready to engage your tax department and get active in the Tax 2.0 online community. The site offers a robust set of tools and resources to help you connect with a valuable network of corporate tax professionals, transform your tax departments operations, and collaborate with industry groups on topics relevant to you.

Here are a few quick tips for interacting with the Tax 2.0 online community.

Managing Your Profile Setting

When logged in to the Tax 2.0 online community you will be able to manage your account information and settings at any time by clicking on your username in the navigation bar in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, then clicking on the Edit tab.

We encourage you to update your profile after your membership is activated. Completing the company profile allows members to search and find peers with similar characteristics. Please note that almost all of this information is optional for you to provide, respecting ultimately your right to privacy. However, we hope you will make this information available to your colleagues, as it will enable more effective and sophisticated networking capabilities of all members on the site.

Networking with Tax 2.0 Community Members

Use the Community page to find groups and individuals you already know, or those you would like to contact. The Hub allows you to use members’ demographic information to identify those whom you’d like to meet. For instance, you might wonder if there are any Tax 2.0 members from manufacturing firms who are located in Illinois. The Hub allows you to identify and reach out to them. The person you reach out to will be notified via a message on the site. Please note their response is optional.

Interacting with Your Group(s)

Let’s say you locate (or already know) a group of people with a similar interest, and you want a way to communicate and share information with them as a group rather than as individuals. As a community member, the Tax 2.0 site will allow you to set up such a group and make it either public, so others can find you and request to join, or private so you only invite an intimate group.

You’ll be able to set up and join (or request to join) as many of these groups as you wish.

In fact, the first group you will be a part of is your Company member group. In this case, it will be a private group. All members of your team (and only your team) will have access to your company’s “home page” on the Tax 2.0 site. You’ll be able to collaborate there and see how each member is taking advantage of the community.

Collaborating within the Community

There are several collaboration technologies available to all Basic and Advanced level Tax 2.0 members on the site. These include:

  • Messaging – each Tax 2.0 member has email capabilities within the site, so you can send messages to one or more individuals with whom you are connected
  • Discussion threads – post a question or topic and invite responses and commentary from some or all members of the community
  • Events – You can use the site to announce an event such as a conference call or webcast, so that multiple members can participate in a live discussion
  • Document management – This functionality allows people in multiple locations to access a single version of a document and provide their input/comments.
